Description

Baccara Dahlia Tubers

‘Baccara’ is an unusual and sought after dahlia in that its wine dark flowers are a true burgundy colour, with any purple. A decorative small flowered variety, ‘Baccara’s blooms are exceptionally neat and make a fabulous focal point in borders and bouquets. The flowers measure about 14 centimetres across.

Dahlia ‘Baccara’ can reach up to 1.2 metres in height and 60 centimetres in spread.

Dahlia ‘Baccara’ makes an excellent cut flower. The buds will not open after picking so the blooms are best cut once they are fully open. Picking first thing in the morning or late evening (when moisture content is high) will significantly extend the life of cut flowers, as will conditioning the freshly cut stems in a few centimetres of hot, not quite boiling water, for an hour or so before arranging.

Dahlias are members of the Asteraceae family of plants. They are clump-forming deciduous tuberous perennials with pinnate leaves and showy flowers in summer and autumn. Dahlias are divided into 14 groups according to their flower shape; ‘Baccara’ belongs to Group 5 and is classed as a Decorative Dahlia. Dahlias are toxic to cats and dogs.

Dahlias are easy to grow and generally free of pests and diseases. You might occasionally need to tackle pests such as slugs and earwigs and diseases such as powdery mildew but good gardening practices, such as appropriate weeding and feeding, together with our range of organic garden products will help keep your dahlias healthy.

‘Baccara’ dahlia is a must-have for the cutting garden as its colour is so versatile in floral arrangements. Team with hot and spicy coloured dahlias to create an opulent, autumnal palette. ‘Karma Choc’, ‘Orange Pekoe’, ‘David Howard’ and ‘Arabian Night’ dahlias would all combine beautifully with ‘Baccara’.
