Description
Tulipa Abba
The Double Early Tulip 'Abba' would appear to hale more properly from the Vatican than Sweden. The petals of the flower are the most striking cardinal red colour and morph into scarlet at the perimeter. The arrangement of double petals makes them resemble a peony with all its blowsy frivolity but luckily Abba has a really sturdy stem to ground it making it a proper Dancing Queen in windy conditions. The lance shaped leaves are a mid grey green that complements the glowing red of the flower. Unusually in the tulip world, Abba also has a wonderful, light fragrance making it a number one hit for all tulip lovers.
Abba in your Garden
This would necessitate finding a spot where their catchy colour is allowed to reverberate: think jazzy coloured pots on the terrace, tubs on the patio or even window boxes, especially a window that you open so that you can enjoy their smell. A chorus of bulbs together look just as good as a far more expensive peony bush and have the same long-lasting perennial qualities. Pair Abba up with not too tall ornamental grasses for a stunning contemporary effect or make up your own band with three other tulips - check out Monte Carlo, Diana and Candy Prince for a truly sing along effect. Order some extra bulbs to put somewhere for cutting: Abba makes the most sensational flower arrangements. Finally, as with all double flowering flowers if encouraging insect life is your intention, then plump for any of our single or dwarf tulip varieties to attract butterflies and bees into your garden.

Abba Trivia
The album - Gold - that Abba produced in 1992 has remained in the UK album charts ever since, bar 2002 and 2006. That is why this tulip should have been platinum!
