Description
Loving Memory
Loving Memory is a red rose with thick, velvety petals; the outer ones reflex slightly to present the whirlpool of intricate loveliness in the centre of the flower, each of which can reach up to 12 cm across and contain 40 petals! The fragrance is mild and slightly sweet.
There are many red hybrid tea roses out there, but not all of them have this same gorgeous brightness, sophistication and stamina.
Each stem produces only one flower, so it is important that the foliage is up to snuff. This variety has quite bright, lightish green leaves that are stubbornly disease resistant and provide a fitting foil to the tremendous flowers.
Grave and Gorgeous
Plant in full sun for the best blooms, and because this rose is all about flowers rather than scent, you can plant it anywhere it can be seen.
Because hybrid teas are quite formal, upright things, we like to contrast them with a slightly unruly rambling rose like Rambling Rector if you have the space, or Adelaide d'Orleans if you don't.

Germany has a thriving rose business, where this one was introduced by Reimer Kordes in 1981. It has become THE bereavement rose, and what more lovely a tribute could there be planted by a gravestone or in your garden?
Planting Instructions
How to plant Loving Memory roses
If planting against a wall leave about 45cms (18") between plant and wall. Dig a hole deep enough to allow the graft to finish at soil level when planted and with plenty of room for the roots. Improve the soil from the hole by removing large stones, weeds, roots and other rubbish and mixing in about 25% by volume of well rotted compost or manure. Wet the roots and sprinkle with Rootgrow so it stays in contact with the roots. If planting a pot grown plant gently loosen some of the roots before planting.
Position your rose so the roots are spread out and it is set at approximately the same level in the soil as it was before being transplanted. The union should be level with the soil when you have finished planting. Backfill the hole with the planting mix, firming it down as you go. Water in thoroughly. Water again a day or two later and then keep watering in dry spells.
bPrune in the winter and feed twice, first in spring then later in the summer.
