Description
Ispahan Damask Shrub Rose
Ispahan is an old shrub rose with vibrant pink flowers that form nested cups. It has a long season, about June to October, and a wonderful Damask scent. It is bushy and thorny, so give it about 3 or 4ft of room. To 5 or 6ft tall.
The plant is about as tough as they come, and with its Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit, it is certain to thrive even in poor soil with partial shade, and is recommended for frost pockets.

The first records of this rose are from 1827 and 1832, although it may be older. It is also known as Pompon des Princes, and variant spellings are Isfahan or Arspahan. Le Jardin Botanique de Montreal gave it the highest rating, outstanding, in its 1998 disease resistance trials (for black spot, powdery mildew and rust), and it also passed Longwood Garden's 10-year rose trial.
