Lovely low maintenance little evergreen shrub with leaves similar to an olive tree that produces white flowers with a little yellow heart in early summer. It is great in sunny gravel gardens and pots, and positively thrives in poor soil. It's a fabulous companion plant in containers. To 60cm x 75cm.

Convolvulus plants are only delivered pot-grown, year round.

Growing Convolvulus cneorum

They prefer poor soils, love chalk, and need sharp drainage, with full sun. They are rated H4, which is hardy in most of the UK, but will be happier in pots that can be moved into shelter in cold Scottish regions. Its natural habitat is in coastal rock crevices where it is out of the full force of the wind, so some shelter is ideal for it to maintain its shape, but overall not essential, especially in warmer Southern areas.

They are low maintenance: mature plants only need a good prune after flowering to keep their height at around 40cm, so that they stay bushy and flower well the following year.

Unlike its cousins (see below), this is a much-appreciated plant ideal for partnering with many other plants, particularly those with similar Mediterranean dispositions such as salvias and lavender. Its lovely silvery grey foliage adds a fabulously cool visual element that contrasts well with dark greens and pinks. It's also fantastic planted in white themed gardens. For an instant gardener's fix, pair with our regal whites collection. Add 'Alba' lavender and a gorgeous white bushy 'Macmillan Nurse' shrub rose, and a climbing 'White Star' rose, and you are onto a winner.

Did You Know?

This species is unusual in the sense that its cousins are mostly climbers, including every gardener's favourite plant they love to hate (well, after pesky ground elder): field bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis. Its native range is mostly coastal Spain, Italy, Croatia and Albania, and Mediterranean islands.
