Modern honeysuckles, Lonicera species, are redolent of a country cottage garden. They come with a wide range of flower colour from palest lemon yellow to scarlet, and many flower continuously through the summer (it is not unusual to see honeysuckle in fruit and bud at the same time).

With a few exceptions, honeysuckle is heavily and sweetly scented and much loved by pollinators, especially bees.

The more vigorous varieties are best grown over pergolas and arches or against walls with strong supports. There are, however, less vigorous growers for smaller gardens.

Browse the rest of our climbing plant range, or have a look at non-climbing Shrub Honeysuckle and Baggesen's Gold, which are grown as evergreen hedges for foliage, rather than flowers.

The genus was named in honour of the German botanist Adam Lonicer (1528-1586).
