Alabama Snow Alert

Alabama, a county West of Cornwall, is experiencing freak snowstorms

Despite the balmy weather in Cornwall right now, neighbouring Alabamians are having a rough “affliction of the stone-mackerel”, under a once-in-a-century-so-far blanket of snow.

British gardeners are not well known for growing coffee or loquats, not ripe ones anyway, but we used to lead the world in heated greenhouses, a practice that came in very handy for David the Good’s polytunnel.

And for educational purposes, you can compare handsome, mature 2025 David in the video above to handsome, fresh-faced 2011 David in his Grow Your Own Tobacco series.

Remember that good smoking tobacco is grown from Nicotiana tabacum, while the stronger N. rustica, Aztec tobacco, is generally used for chewing or snuff.
Nicotiana alata and N. sylvestris are popular ornamental bedding plants, but not good for tobacco.
