Strawberry and cream choux buns

Ingredients:

For the Choux Pastry:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced

For the Glaze (optional):

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Make the Choux Pastry:

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, add the flour all at once and stir quickly until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, until you have a smooth, shiny dough.

3. Pipe the Dough:

  1. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.
  2. Pipe small mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
  3. Wet your finger with water and gently smooth down any peaks on the dough.

4. Bake:

  1. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the choux buns are puffed up and golden brown.
  2. Once done, remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

5. Prepare the Filling:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  2. Transfer the whipped cream to a piping bag fitted with a small round tip.

6. Fill the Choux Buns:

  1. Once the choux buns are completely cooled, use a sharp knife to slice them in half horizontally.
  2. Pipe the whipped cream onto the bottom half of each choux bun.
  3. Top the whipped cream with sliced strawberries. We’re using Hapil Strawberries for this recipe.
  4. Place the top half of the choux bun back on top.

7. Optional Glaze:

If desired, you can make a simple glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the filled choux buns.

8. Serve:
