Yew Tree Farm: Bristol’s Last Working Farm

Catherine Withers owns the last farm within Bristol’s city limits, and is fighting to keep it going

We’re a bit late posting this video asking Bristolians to show up to Bristol City Hall in October last year, but apart from that little detail it’s a good intro.

You can read the latest news about the farm in this Bristol Live article.

Her farm’s beautiful old native hedge had a narrow escape last year when a cheeky developers tractor tried to tear it out, saved at the last minute by valiant locals blocking the way with their cars.

This attack on Catherine’s hedge was due to an alleged “series of gaffes” by the council, which reminds me of my mother’s* wisdom, who served as a Wren in WW2: “with friends and family, never assume malice where incompetence can explain the situation. With the government, it’s usually both.”

Catherine’s recent GoFundMe campaign exceeded it’s £5,000 target last Summer, so you can show your support by following her on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest updates.
