Description

Tulipa White Dream

White Dream is a Triumph tulip meaning that it is the filling in the early and late tulip sandwich. Growing reasonably tall and with large, pearl like flowers it is an impressive, ethereal sight. The petals are slightly off-white, veering towards ivory and are not marked in any way. The surprise comes in the canary yellow anthers which emerge from the centre of the flower to brighten and lift it into the realm of superstar. Unlike many other tulips, and especially the pale types, White Dream is remarkably resistant to adverse weather conditions and the flowers last for about six weeks so it gives a lot of bang for your buck. A bed for White Dream Tulips

There are more colours in the Triumph category of tulip than in any other so White Dream really comes into its own when used to tone down and soften some of its brighter cousins. It will look good with any of them, but we have a special soft spot for mixing it with Pink Impression. It looks great with Honesty, especially Lunaria annua 'Munstead Purple' ; its innocence and globe shape would glow against cardoons (Cynara cardunculus) and of course it would be an essential part of the white repertoire for anyone following that time-honoured trope of the white garden. Not too tall for pots, and robust enough to be used as a cutting flower this is an all round tulip that really might your tulip dreams come true

Hopes and Dreams

The name of this tulip reminds one how people gambled their entire fortunes on the price of a tulip bulb in the 1630s. It is amazing to think that a sober, Protestant country like Holland should have become so engorged with desire for these bulbs that people would stake everything on a single one. As we know, once the bubble had burst a Great Depression ensued. Nevertheless, it never killed the popularity of this innocent and stunning spring flower.
