Ceanothus 'Lemon and Lime', Variegated Californian Lilac Plants

Ideal for growing against a wall at the back of a sunny border, Ceanothus 'Lemon and Lime' is named for the colours of its variegated, mottled evergreen foliage of pale yellow and green. Clusters of small, rich blue flowers May-July. It will grow to about 2.5 metres high and wide.

Ceanothus plants are only delivered pot-grown, year round.

Growing Ceanothus 'Lemon and Lime'

Ceanothus are sun lovers and thrive against a sheltered South or West-facing wall. They need a well-drained but moist soil, ideally neutral to acidic; mildly alkaline is fine, but they are not suitable for chalk. Clay is good on a slope or other location that doesn't hold water in winter.
Their hardiness is rated H4, which means they will be fine in most places outside the coldest regions, as long as they are sheltered from cold, drying winds.

In Your Garden Design

Ceanothus brings a touch of Californian sunshine to the garden and, with its distinctive variegated leaves, as well as rich blue flowers, this is a standout plant for a sheltered position. Grow it with foxgloves, tall alliums such as the spiky christophii or giganteum and colourful wallflowers such as 'Bowles Mauve' and/or 'Winter Orchid', and lie back in a deck-chair to listen to the buzzing of happy bees. You could also trail a clematis montana such as the tetrarosa through it.
