Description
Tulipa Christmas Sweet
Christmas Sweet is the dearest little thing and the palest of the tulips with Christmas in their name. It is basically white but with a definite pink hue reminiscent of the inner surface of shells. The petals become almost pure white at their edges. The flower is large and cup shaped while the sword shaped leaves come halfway up the tulip stalk so that the bloom floats above them. It is a very simple and striking tulip that arrives early and can be forced to flower indoors for Easter, but probably not Christmas. Browse the rest of our tulip bulbs here.
The lack of fuss about this tulip makes it a good choice for those who prefer a pared down look in their garden with clear shapes and pure colours. Christmas Sweet will lighten the front of any border and will stand out well against the dark background of an evergreen hedge. It makes a great bedding plant because of its compact size and luminous quality. A good pastel spring combination might be to grow it with Narcissus Thalia and a few Diana tulips. For a more robust colour scheme try it with Negrita.

Christmas suite?
A pun too good (bad) to miss. It has to be the Nutcracker Suite with Tchaikowsky's bewitching music and magical story which was so imaginatively re-interpreted by Matthew Bourne so that all the dances were performed by 'sweets' - daffy marshmallow girls, handsome humbugs and so on....Christmas tulips next?
