Description

Rosa Truly Loved

Truly Loved is one of those strong, clear pink roses that do not cloy or look too blue and harsh in colour. It is just charming and so makes a perfect gift rose. The rosette blooms are more like an over-generous double flower so that you could not possibly spot a stamen - those are for bees to find - and you are just left to admire nature (with a little help from a talented rose grower) all over again. Each stem gives up several flowers so that you never see lots of bare stems and the foliage is lush and toothed. Truly loved is one of a number of floribunda roses that we stock, including the gorgeous orange Eternal Flame or the wonderfully bonkers Crazy for You, so have a look at them all before making a decision.

Loved in All Situations

A floribunda rose works well in the cutting garden because it is perpetually in flower and is so generous in its output. The flowers last well in a vase and it brings a little of the outdoors inside to have them in your home. Surround your cutting roses with mini hedges of chives or rosemary to enjoy their contrasting coloured flowers and to deter aphids from your roses. Truly Loved's colour and optimal size is an obvious choice for a herbaceous border because it will not overpower and will look marvellous with any purples, whites or blues and could even make up part of a hot border. Wigwams of sweet peas like the pink and white Painted Lady would extend the pink theme, or grow Truly Loved in front of a wall clad with Duchess of Albany or the equally exuberant purple Vyvyan Pennell clematis. Truly Loved will truly work in many situations - imagine it with that black grass Ophiopogon nigrescens in a contemporary hard landscaped garden or in the most cottagey of gardens with valerian and hollyhocks, it will fit in beautifully in either.

Trivia

The name of this rose came about when a deputy head teacher of a small primary school entered a competition to name a new, deep pink rose. She beat over 800 other entrants and considered that it would be a good name for a rose and for her mum, who truly loved gardening, and truly loved roses. The RHS are jury out though with a "tentative" name acceptance. Write to them and not us!

Please Note:

  • This rose is not in flower when it is delivered
  • It is a barerooted plant that has been containerised. It is best to leave it in the pot until March and then plant it out handling the rootball very carefully so as not to damage any new roots.

Planting Instructions

Give your rose an annual mulch of well rotted manure, and for the first few years water when dry. Prune in late winter to remove crossing, diseased or dead branches. Keep the centre open and take the strongest stems back to 30 cm above soil level retaining lots of buds, and leave the weaker stems a bit longer but take off at least 10 cm or so.
